Product Review: Wonderful World of Disney Christmas Tree

I adorned it with a number of beautiful green and gold decorations, but the most outstanding ornaments by far were the Thomas Kinkade Irish Blessings Snowman Christmas Tree Ornaments. Each snowman ornament is absolutely lavished with Irish charm and nostalgia. These darling, little Irish snowmen are among my favorite ornaments I’ve ever had and I never get tired of looking at them.

and watch this snowman glow!	The Warm Glow – If you’re familiar with Thomas Kinkade’s artwork then you know about how his paintings seem to glow when you dim the lights. These snowmen have a similar effect except it’s no illusion. They really do glow. Each ornament has a small hole in the back where you can insert a Christmas light. When all the lights in the room are on, the glowing effect is subtle and they look like normal white snowmen. But when you dim or turn off your overhead lights, the Christmas tree lights illuminate the snowmen with a soft, warm glow. It is a truly captivating effect.
	Thomas Kinkade Artwork – Somewhere on every snowman you’ll find a tiny image inspired by an actual Thomas Kinkade painting. Attached to the string hanger is a gold foil tag with the name of the Kinkade painting represented on the ornament. It’s fun to look up each of the images on Kinkade’s website and compare them to the ornaments. The image to the left was inspired by the Kinkade painting titled “Heather’s Hutch.” When you compare the two you can see how the cottages are styled the same with the location of the windows, the brickwork, the lightpost, the trees & flowers, the early morning sky, and of course the smoke coming from the chimney – it’s all there.
	Irish Blessings – One snowman in each set has a traditional Irish blessing inscribed in a Celtic style font on the objects they’re holding or interacting with. BTW – “sets” are explained futher down the page.
	Irish Symbols – Each snowman is adorned with numerous symbols of Ireland and Irish culture such as shamrocks, musical instruments, Leprechauns and more.
	Ornate details – Each snowman is hand painted and bears an extensive amount of detail including Celtic patterns lining the snowmen’s hats, gloves, jackets, scarves and instruments. And keep in mind that all those minute details are intricately squeezed onto a 4 inch ornament. THAT is impressive!
	No two are alike – There are a total of 18 ornaments in the collection and each snowman is completely unique. Each has his own look and style of clothing. Each interacts with a different item such as a Christmas stocking, a watering can, a sled or an instrument. Each ornament even has its own name.

After thoroughly looking over each snowman, I have to say that I am amazed at the high quality craftsmanship, detail and thought that has gone into these ornaments. For these to sell for 9.99 each is truly incredible.

A few facts about these ornaments

There are 18 limited edition collectible ornaments in the entire collection and each ornament is approximately 4″ tall. They are made of high quality artist’s resin and hand-painted.

Sometimes hand-painted ornaments have a little chipped paint here and there or a slip of the brush – NOT these. I inspected each ornament for such flaws and found no problems whatsoever.

When you order the collection, you receive an issue of 3 unique snowmen every month or two until your collection is complete which allows you to keep only the ones you want. My son contacted Collectibles Today to find out if we could purchase all 18 at once and he explained that we were using them for an Irish Christmas tree article. Collectibles Today then graciously provided us with all 18 ornaments for the purpose of that article. So ordinarily you won’t be able to purchase the full collection all at once. You may be tempted to just make sure it’s the right size and style, but by knowing a few extra tips you can actually save yourself money as well as time when setting up the tree.

Here are 7 questions you should ask before you buy an artificial or pre-lit Christmas tree.

1) What’s the Quality of the Pine Needles?

Ideally, you want your tree to look as real as possible. Higher quality Christmas trees have long pine needles with a tip that’s been rounded off.This creates a more natural, realistic look.

Low quality artificial Christmas trees have shorter needles and a chopped tip – not very realistic.

2) How Are the Branches Attached?

On high quality artificial Christmas trees the branches are attached to the trunk by permanent metal hinges. Some lower quality trees use plastic hinges, which can break fairly easily.

Other trees don’t even use hinges at all. With these trees each branch must be inserted into the tree’s center pole one at a time. This is usually a slow and tedious process. If you want to save time when setting up your Christmas tree try to avoid buying this type of tree.

3) What’s the Center Pole Made of?

The Christmas tree’s center pole is usually either steel, plastic or a natural trunk. The one you want to avoid is the plastic trunk.

It may be cheaper, but ultimately it’s life span is going to be short since the plastic can crack quite easily.

4) How Bright are the Christmas Lights?

Many pre-lit Christmas trees use lights with 100 to 120 milliamps. The problem with these is that they tend to be a little dimmer and they can burn out quicker.

Look for higher quality trees with 170 to 200 milliamps. Brighter lights are much more impressive.

5) How are the Christmas Lights Attached?

On some pre-lit Christmas trees the string of lights are simply wrapped around the limbs. Unfortunately the light strings don’t stay very secure over time.

On higher quality trees the light strings are attached to the branches with clips, which provides far more security.

This can save you from a big decorating headache.

6) How Many Christmas Lights are there Per Foot?

Some pre-lit Christmas tree manufacturers skimp on the number of lights. High quality Christmas trees usually have between 80 and 100 lights per foot. A six-footer should have about 480 to 600 lights.

7) How Long is the Warranty?

It may seem like an obvious question to ask, but how often do you actually ask it? The warranty for the Christmas tree itself ought to be for 10 years.

If it’s a pre-lit tree, the lights should be guaranteed for 3 years or 3,000 hours – whichever comes first.

Perhaps you’re in the mood for a wintery look. Simple. Just use white, blue, light shades of purple and you’re on your way. Along with candles you can add ornamental snowflakes, little snowmen, or strands of clear beads or snowy white garlands.

If you have a color scheme in your home that you would like to play off of, then that can make it even simpler. You can always find candles, ribbons, napkins, beads, etc. on line or at the store. Add touches of winter greenery or tiny Christmas trees to solidify the look.

A Christmas wreath laid in the center of the table can be the beginning of a perfect centerpiece. It can be decorated with any object you may want to use as a theme. If you have no theme in mind other than something special, then ribbons and bows can always come to the rescue. Inside the wreath, place a large candle or several tapers. The tapers can be the same height or differing heights. The choice is yours. Just make certain that the flames or hot wax do not come in contact with anything that could cause a fire. I was at a dinner party once where that happened. We certainly had a lively Christmas party that night!

Hurricane lanterns placed in a row down the center of the table can take the place of a traditional centerpiece. Stemware filled with beads, nuts, berries, glass marbles, or any small festive objects can be used as well. You can use themed pieces to decorate in between. We’ll use Christmas bells as our example of a theme. Bells can be purchased in packages or they can be purchased already strung on wire. If they are on wire, they can be wrapped around the base of the hurricane lanterns, or you can attach them to ribbon and wrap the ribbon around the lanterns. Long strands of ribbon and beads can flow around the decorations.

Continue to carry out your theme with your table napkins. Use two napkins of different colors for each place setting. Place one napkin on top of the other. You can roll them separately or roll them together, but the important thing is to tie them together. Tie them with a beautiful wired ribbon with the bell attached to the ribbon. Because wired ribbon can be shaped, it is easy to make the perfect size napkin holder. With your napkins inside your ribbon napkin holder, artfully arrange them and place them in the center of each plate. You now have bells on your napkin holders and bells on your table decorations.

You can continue the theme with bells tied to the backs of chairs, hanging from the chandelier or attached to your stemware. The idea is to repeat your color or decoration. By using a theme, your Christmas table will go from ho-hum to spectacular! Happy decorating.

Think outside the box and discover the joy of decorating each room with it’s own unique Christmas tree.

We’re use to having our Christmas Tree in our largest room of the house, which is usually the family room. Adding Christmas trees to other rooms as well will continue the celebration and joy throughout the home.

Consider decorating a tree for each child’s room. Most bedrooms are small so a small Christmas tree could be placed on the chest or dresser. Decorate the tree with ornaments that reflect the child’s interests and use ribbons to carry out the color scheme. You can also purchase ornaments with your child’s name printed on them such as this personalized Santa ornament. That gives the tree a very special personal touch. The dining room is the perfect place to add an additional tree; especially if Christmas is the only time it is used. This room should look especially beautiful and festive. A slender Christmas tree in the corner, a small tabletop tree placed on top of a hutch, sideboard or small table you have added for this purpose will add decorative excitement to your celebration. The entrance hall is the perfect place for a Christmas tree. Decorate a small tabletop tree with little white stockings. If you can’t find white stockings, make your own using white felt. Have each guest stuff each stocking with a dollar bill. Be sure to give each guest a heads up before they arrive at the shower so they will be prepared.

Additional decorations for the tree could be little lambs, little cherub ornaments, little baby bottles, little bear ornaments, tiny angels, anything with a baby theme. Use ribbons and bows in blue, white, pink, or yellow.

This is also a good idea for a hostess gift. The hostesses could stuff the stockings. The mother-to-be can take the Christmas tree home or if you prefer to keep it, you could convert it to a Sugar Plum Tree for the children.

Decorate a Christmas wreath for the front door. By using little teddy bears, lambs, or dolls on your wreath, you can greet your guests with a “Merry Christmas” while celebrating the new baby as well.

They were grinning from ear to ear like three adorable little Cheshire cats.

My five-year-old grandson, Andrew, with his bright blue eyes shining and a big smile on his face said, “Grandmom, is that my tree?!”

I loved it. I knew I had hit a homerun!

My Candy Christmas Tree absolutely thrilled my Grandchildren. Their reaction was exactly what I had hoped for.

Watching their gleeful, smiling faces with wide, twinkling eyes anticipating removing the goodies from the tree is a memory I’ll treasure for the rest of my life.

If you want to thrill and delight your children or the children at your Christmas Party try creating your own Candy Christmas Tree… or as I prefer to call it, a Sugar Plum tree.

Unless they just don’t like candy (yeah right ) your kids will adore you for years to come for giving them such a unique and exciting memory.

Now just to be clear – this tree did not take the place of our usual, big tree. It was an additional tree especially for the children – and it has now become a family tradition.

By selecting the right candy “ornaments” your tree can be both beautiful to look at and delightful to taste.

To decorate the tree, I bought bags of candies wrapped in our favorite holiday colors, in cute holiday shapes and of course large jelly candies.

My daughter-in-law helped me by baking some cookies for me while I got busy putting together the candy ornaments and decorations.

Candy Christmas Tree Decorating Tips

A Sugar Plum Tree is fun to do but it takes some time and thought, so here are some tips.

• Do Baking First – Bake your cookies ahead of time and freeze them. Don’t wait until the last minute. When it’s time to decorate the tree, your cookies will be waiting for you. Wrap them in plastic wrap and tie them off with a beautiful ribbon. They can be hung with the ribbon or you can use ornament hooks. If you don’t want to bake then you can use these gingerbread man candies.
• Be Selective with the Candy -Start selecting your candies as soon as they are placed on the store shelves, but don’t settle for buying everything at one store. Selections vary by store and there is much to choose from. I no longer recommend going to local stores for candies – not since I found this candy site. They have more Christmas candy than I ever could have dreamed for. But I still recommend buying your candy early in the holiday shopping season because this online store sells out too.
• Make Candy Pouches – Use plastic wrap or tulle or any fabric of your choosing to make pouches to hold the candy. I used a 9” square of both plastic wrap and tulle to hold candies such as Kisses, foil wrapped chocolate balls, and red, white, and green jelly candies. Fill the cut squares (or circles if you prefer) with several candies of the same color. Gather the corners and tie it off with ribbon.
• The plastic wrap reflects the light and during the Christmas season can be found in colors. Using clear wrap however, enables you to see the color of the foil wrapped candies or jelly candies inside. Select a ribbon color that matches the candies or try a different color.
• Using tulle to wrap the candies looks a little dressier and can be purchased in different colors. Using white tulle allows the color of the foil wrappings on the candies to show. Use ribbons to match the candies or use different colors. The ribbons and materials you use become the decorations for your tree. You have many options available to you so have fun and be creative.
• Many of the major candy manufacturers produce their products in different shapes and wrap them in foil. These candies don’t have to be wrapped and can hang as ornaments on their own. They can be hung on the tree with ornament hooks or ribbon can be taped or glued to the back. Although the ones I’ve linked to have their own hanging strings attached.
• No Sugar Plum Tree would be complete without candy canes. The traditional red and white stripes are beautiful, but don’t stop there. Use an assortment of colors and flavors. The more the merrier.
• Bon Bons dressed in Christmas foil become little ornaments on their own. They can be hung with ornament hooks by slipping one end of the hook through the foil at one end being careful not to rip it.
• Don’t Forget the Tree Skirt – As a finishing touch scatter a variety of little colorful foil-wrapped chocolates all around the tree skirt. This will give your Christmas Candy Tree sparkle and shine from the bottom up.
• Provide each child with a bag or basket or a special container and don’t forget to put their names on them.

These are only a few suggestions to help you get started. Delight the children in your life with a Christmas tree they will never forget. Make it beautiful and colorful and take pictures of the fun when they start removing the sweets from the tree.

Decorating your home using a white theme can be dazzling and sophisticated.

I like to warm up the winter look with touches of red, but touches of gold also adds just the right amount of warmth to a winter wonderland. Using only white and possibly blue may leave you cold and disappointed.

Let’s start with the Christmas tree.

• Spray the tree with snow. The amount depends upon your own personal taste. You can give it a light dusting or make it look like a heavy snowfall.
• Use clear lights. Use a combination of standard steady glowing lights along with twinkling lights.
• Adorn the tree with clear, white and silver ornaments, snowflakes and glass ornament icicles.There are many beautiful Christmas ornaments available that have an elegant frosty look including fruit, berries, birdhouses and even flowers.You can use white glittery fern sprays and anything that captures the beauty and sparkle of fresh winter snow.
• Use garlands or curls of white or sliver ribbon nestled in the tree. A very pale aqua blue ribbon can also be used to emulate the subtle blues of a snowy landscape.
• Drape the tree with clear beads.
• Use sprays of red berries throughout the tree to add excitement to the winter theme. There’s nothing more beautiful than red berries peeking through the glistening snow.

Your White Christmas table decorations will look elegant and classic. Here are some tips and suggestions to get your creative juices flowing.

• Use a white tablecloth.
• Decide on a theme. Use one to three decorations to be repeated throughout your table decoration.You could use white doves, white and silver flowers and berries, little snowmen, white glittery pinecones, snowflakes, silver bells, angels, etc.Differing shades of blue, aqua and purple Christmas ornaments can also be used.
• Use white or silver candles in candelabras for a formal look or in small candleholders for a less formal look.Hurricane lamps can also be used. If hurricane lamps are used, tie white and silver ribbons around the base to dress them up.The lamps can also be sprayed with Crystal Frost, which replicates the beautiful look of frost crystals on glass.
• Use greenery sprayed with snow. The greenery can be placed down the length of the table or it can be made into a candle wreath to be used in the center of the table.Decorate the greenery with your theme decorations. Add touches of elegant, white glittery ribbon to complete the look.If placed lengthwise down the center of the table, it should be placed around the candles, but beware of fire hazards. Choosing a color scheme

I was walking down an isle at Garden Ridge and I was overwhelmed with the different shades of green, the sparkle and shine and the shapes and sizes of so many amazing ornaments. The gorgeous green decorations were the prettiest I have ever seen. Although they had no ornaments that were specifically Irish themed, the colors alone inspired me to do an Irish Christmas tree.

But to use only green would be less interesting, so I chose gold for accent and pop, but also for its symbolism. Ireland may not be known for gold or monetary wealth, but when I think of Ireland one thing that comes to mind are those little Leprechauns and their pots of gold. I also think of the gold as being representative of the richness of Irish tradition and culture – a better form of wealth.

Choosing the decorations

To give the tree a very Irish feel, I wanted to find a combination of ornaments that symbolize the different aspects of Ireland. While at Garden Ridge I purchased all their prettiest green ornaments as well as a few gold ornaments. My basket was full, partly because my little granddaughters were shopping with me and helping me select. They were handing me ornaments faster than I could put them in the basket. I wasn’t quite satisfied though. I would need to purchase items from several other stores before I finally had all that I wanted. For your convenience I’ve listed all the stores I bought decorations from at the end of this article.

For the decorations on my Irish Christmas tree I used:

	A wide variety of green ornaments and ribbons to symbolize the many shades of green that dominate the Irish countryside.
	Irish snowman ornaments that pull together all the different aspects of Ireland; the green landscapes, the music, Celtic heritage, mythology, and the warm friendly spirit of the Irish people. I’ve described these in more detail further down the page.
	Shamrock ornaments which are probably the most recognizable and common symbol of Ireland.
	Musical instruments and music notes to represent the love and passion the Irish have for music.
	Fairy ornaments to symbolize Irish mythology. Plus they just look cool when their hung from the ceiling and posed like their flying around decorating the tree. We also wanted to use Leprechauns, but couldn’t find any.
	Pot of gold ornaments, also a symbol of Irish mythology. These ornaments can’t be bought as is pictured. You have to purchase a few different items and put them together yourself. I explain how to do that further down the page. It’s very simple.
	Cross ornaments to symbolize Ireland’s Christian heritage. I was hoping to find some Celtic crosses, but the ones I found still looked great.
	A St. Patrick ornament to symbolize the Irish Catholic faith.
	An Irish Santa ornament.
	Vertical hanging beads and sequins – to me these long downward flowing beads symbolize the many waterfalls that the Irish rains bring and the lush, green vegetation they give life to.
	Green clip-on butterflies for a little extra variety. And believe it or not, Ireland does in fact have some greenish colored butterflies – the Green-veined White and the Brimstone.
	A Green Emerald ornament since Ireland is known as the “Emerald Isle.”
	And one ornament of the Irish Flag.

When I finally finished decorating the tree with the different shades of green, the sparkle, the shine, the elegant crosses, the musical notes and instruments, and the precious tiny fairies fluttering around the top of the tree with their beads and shamrocks, I was very happy I decided on an Irish tree with all of its shades of green and precious little character ornaments.

But there was one set of ornaments that brought everything to life and in fact took over the tree and claimed it for their own…

How the Irish Snowman Ornaments bring the tree to life

To me, these Irish Snowman Ornaments were like the jewels in the crown on this tree. Without them, I had a very nice looking Irish Christmas tree. With them, the tree became alive with the warm friendly spirit of Ireland. They are nicely sized at 4 inches tall and their design is inspired by the masterful oil paintings of the World’s most collected living artist, Thomas Kinkade. These darling, little Irish snowmen are among my favorite ornaments I’ve ever had and I never get tired of looking at them.

I liked these snowmen so much I decided to do a full write-up about them. Believe me, these are some of the most exquisite and downright coolest ornaments you will ever own!

Here are a few tips for decorating with these Irish snowmen:

• Insert one of your Christmas tree lights in the base of the snowmen to make them glow.
• For fun, compare the little Thomas Kinkade paintings on the snowmen to Kinkade’s actual paintings. I show a specific example of this in my write-up about the snowman.
• Experiment with playful ways of arranging the snowmen on the tree, for example:
  • Position the sleigh riding snowman so that he’s sledding down the ribbon.
  • Group the snowmen with musical instruments close to each other to form a snowman band.

Setting up the flying Irish Fairies

One of the more magical elements on this tree is the appearance of Irish fairies flying around, hanging beads and ornaments. For years, I’ve created this effect with white doves, but for an Irish Christmas tree fairies are perfect. This sort of thing always draws attention from guests and everyone who sees it.

Here are a few tips for hanging the Irish fairies:

• Use white sewing thread (or whatever color matches your ceiling) to hang the fairies. You could also try “invisible” thread.
• To keep the fairies from twisting and rotating randomly they require two anchor points. This keeps them still and pointed in the direction you intended.
• Fairies that are “hanging ornaments” need two strings, both anchored at the ceiling. If your fairy has little loops like mine, then you can simply use one long string slid through the loop then pinned to the ceiling at two different places.
• Fairies that are posed “hanging beads” require only one string anchored to the ceiling since the beads attached to the tree act as the 2nd anchor point.

Making pot of gold ornaments

The pot of gold ornaments are very easy to make.

What you’ll need:

• Little plastic pots (black)
• Plastic gold coins
• Green spray paint
• Green glitter spray paint
• Tissue paper
• Gold cord

One other idea is to use gold foil wrapped chocolate coins instead of plastic coins. They would make a nice little Christmas treat for the kids – and the adults for that matter. They might actually even look better. These pots would also work great on a Sugar Plum Tree. Just fill them with your favorite candy.

What to do:

1. Spray paint the pots green
   Take a plastic black pot and spray paint it holiday green or whatever shade you prefer. This may require 2 or 3 coats to get solid coverage. You can leave the pots black if you prefer, but I recommend painting them because black doesn’t show up very well on the tree. Obviously, if you can find green pots then you can skip this step all together.
2. Spray paint the pots with glitter green
   This is just to make the ornament stand out a little more. Without the glitter spray paint, the pots looked pretty drab and boring. I know the glitter doesn’t show up very well in the photo, but trust me, the pots look a lot better with the glitter.
3. Stuff the pot with tissue
   This is just so you don’t have to fill the pot with a whole bunch of coins. It saves a little money. Tissue paper is what I used, but just about anything will work.
4. Tie gold cord to the handle
   This is to create a hanger loop for the pot. You can actually hang the pot by it’s handle, but when you do this the pine needles obscure the view of the coins and the pots also have a tendency to slide off if you don’t place them just right.
5. Place gold coins in the pot
   Arrange the coins so they cover the tissue and so that they poke out of the pot a little.
6. Optional step: glue the coins
   The coins can fall out very easily, so you might want use a little dab of glue here and there to secure the coins in place. I personally did not bother with this.

Setting up an Irish tree with the bare essentials

Obviously I used a lot of ornaments and decorations for my Irish tree, but if you don’t want to spend that much time and money then here are the bare essentials I recommend.

• Wrap the tree in bright green and gold ribbon.
• Hang shamrock ornaments on the tree.
• Hang Irish snowman ornaments on the tree. These ornaments are gorgeous enough to carry the tree on their own.

I buy pretty much all my Christmas trees from Hammacher. You could go with a pre-lit Noble Fir, pre-lit Fraser Fir or a fresh cut tree. They sell all three. And yes, I do believe Hammacher sells the best artificial prelit Christmas trees as their website claims.

  This is where I bought the Irish Santa ornaments, the Irish flag ornament, shamrock ornament and St. Patrick ornament.

  This is where to buy the little pots and gold coins for making the pots of gold.

  They have a wide variety of chocolate gold coins that would work great as a tasty and fun alternative to the plastic coins for the pot of gold ornaments. While you’re at it, you might also want to check out their big assortment of Christmas candy.
